KAN and the Broome Civic Centre host an annual exhibition by artists who live and work above the 26th parallel. The 26th line of latitude officially defines the edge of the north and it comes with an attitude; a creative and adventurous spirit that has its own grit and vernacular. ‘art above the 26th‘ explores creative expression of the lifestyles, heritage and character of ‘the north’. art above the 26th is supported and promoted by Australia’s Northwest Tourism, the Broome Visitors Centre and the Broome Turf Club. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the busy Broome Race Week, drawing in visitors to town for the popular Ladies Day and Broome Cup events. The exhibition showcases the diversity of visual artists across the region, from remote art centres in Balgo and Kununurra to contemporary mixed media artists Clare Peak and Jacky Cheng.
