This bronze sculpture of Sam Male was erected by the Shire of Broome and the Male family to acknowledge Sam Maie's significant civic contribution to Broome over his lifetime. Sam was Broome's inaugural Shire President from 1962 to 1966 and was also a driving force in the revival of the pearling industry during the 20th century.
